California through the Decades
Fact Cards
Fourth-grade students gain an overview of the history of California presented through the significant events of each decade.

Beginning with a card on Native Californians before the Spanish arrived, this set of Fact Cards has one double-sided card on each decade from the 1760s through the 1990s. For most decades, four topics have been chosen for their importance in California history, and to give the flavor of the decade.

Examples of topics:
1780s Pueblo of Los Angeles founded
Father Junipero Serra died
Six Franciscan missions established
Jean Francois de la Perouse brought a French scientific expedition to Monterey
1860s Pony Express arrived in San Francisco
Transcontinental telegraph lines completed
University of California founded
Central Pacific Railway joined the Union Pacific, linking California to the east
1910s Los Angeles Times building bombed
Hollywood's first movie filmed
Alien Land Law passed
World Expositions held in San Diego and San Francisco

An excellent addition to the more specific Fact Card sets:
California Missions Fact Cards
California Indians Fact Cards
